The bleak shores of Elephant Island were home to 23 of Ernest Shackleton's shipwrecked men for ten long months in 1903. On Paulet Island, over a million Adelie penguins breed. And on Deception Island, formed by a volcanic crater, a narrow entryway conceals one of the largest natural harbors in the world.
